You are invited to apply to become a Community Champion.
One Community Champion takes the lead to bring Segue to one school and thereby makes a
difference in the lives of hundreds or thousands of students. Segue helps students become
inspired and motivated about their future. Students come to see how relevant school is,
and that it's to their own benefit to take responsibility for their lives by putting
in more effort now.

The Community Champion identifies the school and
|
assembles a team of five other committed individuals to serve as a Development Committee. The Community Champion, in conjunction with Segue and his/her Development Committee, brings to students an awareness and a method that helps them choose their future.
|
Segue provides a concise Manual for implementing
|
the Program at a school, with all the necessary information, and provides some ongoing coaching to the Community Champion. The Committee is also tasked with a few additional administrative steps, requiring a total of about ten hours, most of which occurs during the first month of the school year.
|
Companies benefit from employee volunteerism
because it increases employee retention, attraction, and morale. To see summaries of several studies

Each of the six members of the Development
|
Committee, during the school year, cause a minimum of four other community members to speak in students' classrooms. We call these speakers "Career Mentors." Career Mentors are sought from a wide variety of career paths, from carpenters to doctors. Career Mentors, themselves, become living proof for students that long-term goals are achievable; they become the evidence that the path to these goals is through additional education or training. Each Career Mentor, one time during the school year, self-schedules online a time and date that fits his/her calendar, spends less than two hours on a campus, speaks in three consecutive classes, and reaches about 100 students as they speak about their personal career path experiences. Our Speaker's Guide supports speakers at all levels of experience. Reminder notices are emailed to each Career Mentor before the date on which they are scheduled to speak.

Segue metrics: Student Career Exposures (SCEs)
In addition to the twelve statistical student outcomes that Segue measures (click
here for bar graph), Segue has coined the term "Student Career Exposure." One SCE is one exposure to one career for one student. With Segue Community Champions, the minimum number of SCEs for a school each year is over 2,000. Here's the math: The Champion's Development Committee of 6 members each prompts 4 people to be a Career Mentor, and each mentor speak in 3 classes. The result is that mentors speak in a minimum of 72 classes (6 x 4 x 3). Assuming 30 students per class, the result is 2,160 SCEs for the school that year (72 x 30).
|
The Champion and/or Committee makes a donation
to Segue to cover its operating fee at one school, any portion of which may be fundraised by the Committee, or received as grants from groups like Rotary, banks, individuals, corporations, and foundations. Contributions to the operating fee are tax deductible because Segue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit duly registered with the IRS.
The contribution of the operating fee provides the selected school unlimited use of the Segue online self-scheduling system for teachers and Career Mentors during the school year; Segue's Program Implementation Manual of best practices; the posting, data collection, and description of findings of annual surveys for each of the following groups: participating teachers, Career Mentors, and students; Segue's posting online of respective school databases to support teacher and Career Mentor scheduling; and unlimited use of Segue's "Student" web links to support exploration of career options.

Survey research tools are provided to enable
|
survey feedback from speakers (automatically sent by email), students, and teachers. New questions may be added.
