Motivating students onto positive career paths

Donating to Segue makes a big difference in the lives of local youth. Segue helps students help themselves, take responsibility for where their lives are headed, choose productive careers, and keep off life's negative paths. Last year Segue served over 3,000 students. Over 90% of funds donated go to program services. Students receive Segue speakers as, by their very example, living proof of how the workplace works: You pay your dues, you do good work, you get ahead. Each $100 contributed results in career path presentations to about 20 students. |

Segue empowers, inspires and motivates students. Students come to see the "relevance" of school and this can make all the difference. As the Assistant Principal at one of the high schools reports in a letter, students exposed to Segue make "graduating high school a new and important priority in their lives." Each year 1,000's of students enter our communities with little or no idea how to make it in world. Gangs become very inviting. According to RAND, each high school dropout costs society nearly $400,000 and each career criminal costs about $1.5 million. With over 500 students for every school counselor, and counselors mostly focusing on subjects other than careers, students have few opportunities to learn about their many career options. Per a national study, knowledge of career options is a "basic prerequisite to a successful transition to productive adulthood." With Segue, students learn that it's for their own benefit to do well; that more effort now equals more options in their future. They learn that the choices are theirs to make, and that what they do now, or don't do, will affect them for many years, if not a lifetime. Thank you! |
